Nursing the Post Christmas Hangover

After getting a late start of 8am at Campos Marina, I headed back behind the rocks in search of some bass, and maybe a few reds if I got lucky.  It was still extremely foggy and little to no wind, so the gnats were out like crazy.

I started working the center of the 2nd cut, knowing that the grass isn't as thick there, and maybe I could pull a fish from the edge of the grass.  No luck.  I paddled further into the marsh to areas that I knew would be deeper and possibly hold some fish.  No luck for the first hour.  I decided at this point, either: there are no fish here, the fish that are here aren't hungry, or I'm using the wrong colors.  So I take the Nightruse Matrix Shad off of my Seein' Spots inline spinner, and put a Black with Chartreuse tail on it.  First cast, large mouth bass.

Now I've realized that the reason I wasn't catching was because of the bright lure with overcast skies and fog didn't work.  As I continued deeper into the winding marsh, I continued to pick up more bass.  Finally around 11:30 the sun came out the day started getting hot.  About 15 minutes of bright sun and I pick up the first red of the day.

The wind changed direction and the temps began dropping as soon as i released the red back into the water.  I decided to start making my way back home by way of wind.  I landed a few more bass on the ride in, and another red, making the total 2 reds and 5-7 bass.  All fish were released today.
